Our Story
Straghn & Son Funeral Home was founded on faith, family, and an unwavering commitment to serving others. In September 1980, Alfred “Zack” Straghn and his devoted wife, Lois Straghn, stepped out on faith and established Straghn and Son Tri-City Funeral Home, Inc., with a vision to provide compassionate, dignified service to families throughout Palm Beach County.
Conveniently located in the heart of Delray Beach—known as the Village by the Sea—and less than one mile from Interstate 95, Straghn & Son Funeral Home has remained deeply rooted in the community it proudly serves. Our central location reflects our commitment to being accessible, present, and connected to the families and neighborhoods that have entrusted us with their care for generations.
Zack’s calling to the funeral profession began long before he entered the workforce. As a young boy, he showed a natural sense of compassion and reverence for life, organizing respectful burial services for deceased farm animals and inviting others to participate. That early sense of purpose carried into adulthood, when at just 21 years old, he began his career with Coleman Funeral Home in West Palm Beach. After nearly three decades of faithful service, Zack and Lois felt called to create a funeral home that reflected their own values— one rooted in faith, family, and community.
Their dream quickly became a family legacy. Their sons, Randy and Maurice—both Licensed Funeral Directors—along with their late sons, Vincent and Keith, joined in building and growing the business. Today, Straghn & Son Funeral Home proudly represents four generations of family involvement, preserving the traditions, integrity, and compassion that Zack and Lois established from the beginning.
Over the decades, Straghn & Son Funeral Home has had the privilege of serving more than 8,000 families, guiding them through their most difficult moments with care, respect, and professionalism. Each family entrusted to our care has strengthened our commitment to provide meaningful, personalized services that honor life and preserve legacy.
Beyond their professional service, Zack and Lois dedicated their lives to uplifting their community. Zack was the founder and first President of the South Palm Beach County Branch of the NAACP and played a key role in the desegregation of the public beach in Delray Beach. Together, they supported countless community organizations, youth programs, and charitable efforts, embodying their belief that their mission was not simply a profession, but a calling to serve.
Zack and Lois shared 70 years of marriage until Zack’s passing in December 2020. Their legacy continues to guide everything we do. At Straghn & Son Funeral Home, we remain committed to honoring every life with dignity, supporting every family with compassion, and serving our community with the same faith, integrity, and devotion that have defined our story for generations.

Our Founders & Legacy
Alfred “Zack” Straghn and Lois Straghn founded Straghn & Son Funeral Home in September 1980, establishing a legacy rooted in faith, family, and service to the community.
From an early age, Zack demonstrated a unique calling. As a child, he would respectfully bury deceased farm animals and organize funeral services and programs, inviting other children to participate—an early sign of the compassion and purpose that would define his life’s work. At just 21 years old, Zack began his professional career with Coleman Funeral Home in West Palm Beach, where he faithfully served families for 28 years. On September 12, 1980, guided by faith and a vision for independent service, Zack and Lois established their own funeral home, Straghn and Son Tri-City Funeral Home, Inc.
Their commitment quickly became a family endeavor. Their four sons—Randy (Licensed Funeral Director), Maurice (Licensed Funeral Director), Vincent (deceased), and Keith (deceased)—joined the business, helping to build what has grown into a true four-generation family legacy. Today, Straghn & Son Funeral Home stands as a testament to their enduring dedication and the strength of family tradition.
Zack and Lois shared 70 years of marriage until Zack’s passing in December 2020. Their success was built on a foundation of unwavering faith, putting spiritual values first, and maintaining a deep commitment to community engagement. As philanthropists, they have supported and sponsored numerous community organizations, youth programs, and athletic initiatives throughout Palm Beach County.
Their service extended beyond the funeral profession. Zack was the founder and first President of the South Palm Beach County Branch of the NAACP and played a pivotal leadership role in the historic effort to desegregate the public beach in Delray Beach— demonstrating his lifelong commitment to justice, equality, and human dignity.
While they have received countless honors, awards, and recognitions over the years, Zack and Lois considered their greatest accomplishments to be their faith, their devotion to family, and their calling to serve others. For more than 75 years, they dedicated their lives to helping families navigate life’s most difficult moments, ensuring that every individual entrusted to their care was treated with dignity, compassion, and respect.
Straghn & Son Funeral Home continues that mission today, honoring their legacy by serving families with the same faith, integrity, and compassion that Zack and Lois instilled from the very beginning.
